Course Breakdown
  • Module One: Introduction and Welcome
  • Challenging attitudes exist in every boardroom, audience and classroom. Learn to understand what causes these attitudes and find out how to address them so you can maintain control of even the most challenging participants. In this 2 hour program you will learn how to control apathetic, negative and despondent participants so they don’t control you.
  • Module Two: Stop Interruptions
  • Eliminate distractions and stay on track. People may stop the flow of your presentations by jumping in with questions and comments or trying to start conversations at inappropriate times. The major problems come from the people who want the attention, power, or satisfaction of being publicly recognized. These Talk Hogs fall into two categories—the Expert, who actually has some information and credentials (but may want to challenge you), and the Know-It-Alls, who just want the spotlight. Both can take over a conversation and even overshadow your message, but only if you let them.
  •  Module Three: Handle Negativity
  • Maintain a positive learning environment. Negative people tend to either find fault with you or the class, resent being there in the first place, or heckle their way through to cover up something underneath.
  • It’s important to understand the motivation of such people who are at a training. They are often people who were required to attend, and they resent it. They come with an attitude that is not conducive to learning or to useful dialogue. Rudolf Dreikurs would say their misbehavior is just the manifestation of desire for revenge, misdirected at the speaker rather than toward whoever required his or her presence. Learn how to maintain a positive learning environment, even with them in the room.
  •  Module Four: Manage Inattention
  • Motivate people to listen and perform. I suggest a challenge: Find a way to keep the people in your room as stimulated and engaged as you are as a speaker. You may already have a number of valuable techniques that will work to keep the attention of nearly anyone in the room. But for some people, you’ll need a few other tricks up your sleeve.

a WORD From our fans
”Jason gave one of the most impressive and engaging mini-training 's that I’ve ever seen. It was a short 15 minute one on one ‘How to launch an effective presentation.’ "
-Todd ElkinProject & Product Manager
"I conquered my fear in my last presentation. Thanks to Jason, I was able to give my presentation effectively in front of a crowd without the security of a podium or table."
Payvand Moaddel Associate Software Engineer
”Your presentation was extremely helpful. I had thought my presentation was all but finished. Then I attended the webinar and learned that I had committed most of the sins of PowerPoint and was preparing to lead my attendees to a slow and painful death by PowerPoint. Yikes! I had always thought the PowerPoint was the presentation and needed to stand alone on its own. Probably because I see so many like that.”
- Gregory Hopson , University of Iowa
”Jason is a master at understanding people. What has been interesting to me is that Jason uses his own techniques to
“rule the room.”

Jeremy WrightProject Manager
“The presentation skills courses I have taken from Jason have really helped me gain credibility with my customers. That has increased my confidence, and has also fueled me to improve my internal communication skills..."
